The VanFleet Intensive Filial Therapy Training Program
28 contact (in person) CE credits, including for APT

Filial Therapy is a unique and highly effective play-based family therapy in which therapists train parents to conduct nondirective play sessions individually with their own children, ages ~3-14. It works well with many different problems, including trauma and complex trauma. The therapist demonstrates, trains, and supervises the parents through this time-limited process and helps parents to understand play themes and their children while resolving existing challenges. Sixty years of research have shown this to be an evidence-based child and family therapy method. Filial Therapy was developed by Drs. Bernard and Louise Guerney, and taught by their long-time student, then colleague, Dr. Risë VanFleet of Pennsylvania. This 4-day intensive course was developed by Dr. VanFleet with full fidelity to the original Guerney model. The training is limited to 6 people per instructor to ensure skill development through a positive feedback process which parallels the process used with parents. This course has been described as "the best workshop I have ever attended" by numerous people through the years. Use the link below for more information and dates/locations. Feel free to directly contact Jacque George (george.jacque@yahoo.com) who conducts this workshop in PA or Risë VanFleet (rise@risevanfleet.com) for more information.
